Tug braking effect

Consider this statement by an eminent naval architect.
“The tug braking thrust may roughly be estimated by specific formula depending on the tug propeller type. It is noted that the equation is developed for the deep water condition and that the stopping distance in shallow water may be assumed to be almost the same as that in deep water“.
